The 2020 Christmas Light Show at Kew Gardens! ✨

Happy Sunday!

Now that enough time has passed and the light show isn't on anymore, I wanted to share my photos from the 'Christmas at Kew' light show back in December 🎇 I've waited a while to post these because I know they extended the show until the end of Janauary and I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who was planning to go.

This has been on my list for literal years! I've lived in London a long time now (16 years), and I've always wanted to go to Kew Gardens' light show but I either forgot to book tickets in time, was sick or wasn't around. Last year, as we weren't able to go many places at all, I saw that the show was still open, so I booked our tickets straight away.

I also felt safe going to this as it was all outside and everyone had masks on. From where I am in east London, it took about an hour to get there by train, which wasn't so bad. The entrance of the show was this huge wreath that said 'Welcome to Kew' and turned red and green! I was so excited, I nearly ran inside 😂 I LOVE Christmas and it was just so nice to be able to do one thing that was super Christmassy this year.

Walking around Kew at night was a first for me and it was really an awesome experience. Being there in the daytime is beautiful of course, but there was something really magical about walking along the pathways that were lit by the glow of the lights from the pieces of artwork surrounding you.

Some of these pieces really made you feel like you were in a fantasy world. The pictures don't really do it justice but the way all the colors were bouncing off the grass and the trees was incredible.

Each 'stop' along the way had different songs playing - mostly instrumental Christmas music - and it really set the scene! The tunnel with all the stars had 'When You Wish Upon A Star' playing and I felt like I was at Disney World (I wish).

Further along, these had these massive dandelions hanging everywhere while 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies' played.

Next up was their 'Cherry Blossom' section which the pictures accurately show as a very vivid pink!

We had so much fun walking around! 💓 There are food and drink stalls dotted around the whole show as well. I thought I'd taken pictures of all the food we had but I guess not! Was I feeling ok??

We had hot chocolates to start with and then made our way to the food where we settled on southern fried chicken, homemade french fries and slaw! It was so delicous. NOT cheap though, so be warned that if you choose to eat dinner there you will be spending some cash.

We finished up our food and then entered this whole section where everything was basically on fire (but controlled!)

All of these fire sculptures were so beautiful!

This tunnel was one of the last things to see and it was playing one of the theme songs from Home Alone which was amazing and I think everyone got a kick out of it.

Then after this, you take a long walk around the side of the main lake that's in front of the massive greenhouse for the grand finale💚💗

They really put on a fantasic final show! The whole thing was about 5-7 minutes long and was a great end to the evening.

The excitment and walking around proved to be too much and I fell asleep on the tube home 😂

If you live around the London area I highly recommend making the trip this year - I know I'll definitely be back. 🎄 The tickets are available now on Kew's website if you're super keen along with pricing options.

I've put a video on my Instagram account that has clips of some of the stops on the tour around the grounds if you'd like to see them.

As always, thank you for reading!

 Questions for you!
  • Did you go to the show last year or any of the previous years?

  • Is there a similar show like this you'd recommend seeing?
